Like most police forces in the UK, the Leicestershire Constabulary bought a large number of Volvo V70 T5 estates for their traffic departments, including this car, S49 LJU. It was posted to the eastern traffic division in Rutland where it was mainly driven by Sgt 429 Tim O'Connor, so was likely to be a traffic supervisors car. It was first registered in January 1999 & replaced a Vauxhall Omega.
It was later transferred to the roads policing unit HQ at Enderby, where it then patrolled Leicestershire's section of the M1 motorway and was driven by a number of traffic officers.
S49 LJU AT SCENE OF AN ACCIDENT ON THE M1 MOTORWAY IN 1999
The car was fitted with all the usual kit for use at motorway incidents, including cones, accident signs, first aid kit etc, plus a new item at the time; tracker, which was used to locate stolen vehicles, hence the extra aerials on the roof.
S49 LJU was retired from police service in the early 2000’s and was purchased by a tv/film company who used it for a number of years before selling it off.
