In 1997 Volvo introduced a revised version of the 850 and rebadged it as the S70/V70. It had the same engine and running gear, same body shell and performance, but the “rough” edges of the 850 had now been revised with a brand new interior, slightly different exterior trim details and with the revised braking and larger “perfo” wheels it was considered to be a much better overall product.
Just about every police force in the UK had used the original 850 in large numbers but the new S70/V70 T5 was now being purchased in huge numbers and could be seen on every motorway in the country. This version of the S70/V70 was superseded by a new, heavier version in 2001.
The Volvo V70 T5 has to be regarded as one of the best police cars of all time.
This Volvo V70 T5 entered service with Warwickshire Constabulary on 26th August 1999 & was based at Coleshill police station. Its fleet number was 0202758 & it was used as a traffic supervisory unit. In 2001 Warwickshire Constabulary joined the central motorway police group, together with West Midlands & Staffordshire police & this car would have patrolled the likes of the M40 & M42 motorways.
The car was retired from service on the 9th January 2004 with 108,000 miles on the clock. The current owner purchased the car in 2020 and restored it into the condition you see today.
